Porcelain crowns may sometimes be used for cosmetic procedures when porcelain veneers are not the best option. We offer their patients experience and knowledge when deciding which option is best for their smile enhancements.
Common Problems Solved
Porcelain crowns are used for a variety of reasons. Sometimes a porcelain crown is used when there is a substantial amount of decay or after the removal of a large metal filling with a porcelain inlay or onlay is not sufficient. Also, people wanting to cosmetically enhance their appearance often use porcelain veneers or porcelain crowns. Porcelain crowns treat a variety of issues:
- Severely crooked teeth
- Teeth stained from medications (such as tetracycline)
- Teeth with root canal treatment
- Severely worn or broken teeth
What are Porcelain Crowns?
Porcelain crowns are made of all porcelain, and sometimes can contain a metal framework for reinforcement. Most porcelain crowns typically cover the entire tooth; however, there are porcelain crowns that may only cover three-fourths of the tooth. Porcelain crowns are usually necessary when replacing large fillings when there is not adequate tooth structure to support a new filling, when a large amount of tooth structure has broken off, cracked or decayed, or when the tooth has had root canal treatment.
We will have the porcelain crowns made from a mold of your teeth and will provide you with a temporary crown. When you return at your next visit, your permanent crown will be fitted and checked for color and fit. Once you and Dr. Follis are satisfied, the porcelain crown will be permanently bonded onto the tooth. The final result will be a natural-looking, beautiful porcelain crown.
We are dedicated to helping people look and feel better about themselves. If you are interested in learning more about porcelain crowns and whether they are right for you, contact our office today.
