It can be very noticeable when a tooth is missing in your smile. Dental bridges and implants can replace missing teeth, and give your smile the confidence you’ve always wanted. We can give you a full, natural-looking smile with the help of dental bridges or implants.
Who Needs an Implant or Dental Bridge?
A dental implant is a surgically placed titanium post that serves as the root of the tooth. A single porcelain crown can then be fabricated and attached to the implant to replace the missing tooth. This is the best option for tooth replacement; however, dental bridges are also an option. Dental bridges use the teeth on either side of the missing tooth as support while filling in the space with a porcelain crown.
There are three kinds of dental bridges. We can help you choose which type best meets your needs. The three types of dental bridges are:
- Fixed bridges
- Bonded bridges
- Cantilever bridges
Fixed Dental Bridges
A fixed dental bridge uses the two teeth on either side of your space to anchor the pontic. The pontic is the replacement for the missing tooth. Porcelain crowns are bonded to the adjacent teeth with a pontic between them that replaces your missing tooth.
Fixed dental bridges require the teeth adjoining your space to be shaped in order to fit the crowns, but they are the strongest type of bridge.
Bonded Dental Bridges
If your space is in an area of your smile that is not under a lot of chewing stress (not among your front teeth), we may recommend a bonded dental bridge. This type of bridge type of bridge does not require additional porcelain crowns. Instead, the pontic is held in place using two “wings” that are bonded to the back of the adjacent teeth on either side of your space.
Your teeth must be strong and healthy in order to support a bonded bridge.
Cantilever Bridges
Cantilever bridges, like bonded bridges, are most often used only in an area of the mouth that does not bear much stress. We can use a cantilever bridge when there is only a natural tooth on one side of your space. Unlike fixed and bonded bridges, cantilever bridges rely on a natural tooth on one side of the space to support your pontic.
Implants and Dental Bridges Look Natural
Implants and dental bridges look natural, just as porcelain veneers and porcelain crowns. The pontic and any crowns that are used in your implants and dental bridges are made out of porcelain, which looks very similar to your natural teeth.
Once you have your implants and dental bridges, your smile will be full and natural looking.
